212p +8p catalogue. "Peter M. Volkonsky was born in 1861 in St. Petersburg. His father was Prince Michael S. Volkonsky, his mother the Serene Princess Elizabeth G. Volkonskaia (1838?1897). He married Princess Catherine Shahovskaya, daughter of the General of Infantry Prince Shakhovsky Aleksei Ivanovich (1821?1890) and Sofia Alexandrovna Olsufyeva (1830?1882). Their son was Prince Mikhail Petrovich Volkonsky." (wiki) The book relates the return to Russia in 1920 to win the release of her husband from prison, & their departure into exile. Gift inscription on fep from author: "To Miss Lucy King - a true friend in days of hardship from the author June 1931" and a signature of W.H, Shawcross below it (? unrelated).The book is tight but with a little foxing and the cloth board are a little grubby with early wear alongside the spine.
