Rust cloth titled in gilt. First edition with Scribner's "A." . Cloth faintly stained with a few tiny pinpoint indentations to rear board; spine head slightly sunned; slight slant; foxing to block edge. Minor foxing or staining to leaves, endpages slightly toned. Sound hinges. The DJ in mylar is sunned/dampstained to spine, V-shaped loss to spine head, and a few small holes to flap folds. ; 8vo 8" - 9" tall. Seller Inventory # 33890

Spine lettering a bit dull, very good lacking the dust jacket. Fourth play by the four-time Pulitzer Prize-winner (three for Drama and one for Biography), about a London chorus girl reduced to prostitution during WWI. Basis for two excellent films, the first made by James Whale in 1931 with Mae Clarke (and with Bette Davis in one of her earliest performances), the other by Mervyn LeRoy with Vivien Leigh and Robert Taylor. Ownership initials of Barrett H. Clark, an exceptionally important figure in modern American drama, aside from authoring many books, he served as the longtime literary editor for the publisher Samuel French.
