Historical novel by German writer Richard Friedenthal (1896-1979), recounting the 16th century expedition of Spanish Conquistador Hernando [Hernán] Cortés (1485 - 1547) which not only claimed large portions of Mexico for the Spanish crown, but marked the first step of Spanish colonization of the Americas. In February of 1519, with some 11 ships, 500 men, 13 horses & few cannons, Cortez landed in the Yucatan and claimed the land a month later for the Spanish crown . a remarkable adventure with colorful protagonists, and, the success of which eradicated military insubordination.
