1945. Second impression. 296pp., a frontispiece, 14 black and white illustrations, maps on the endpapers and 3 other maps. Maud Diver (1867-1945) was an English author in British India who wrote novels, short stories, biographies and journalistic pieces primarily on Indian topics and Englishmen in India. This book is an account of the remarkable work done by British engineers and officials to improve the lot of the people of India. It tells of the building of roads and railways, of canals, bridges and the great irrigation schemes, the conquest of the Khyber Pass and the war against famine and disease. The book is bound in the original blue cloth covered boards with gold titling on the spine. The case of the book is in very good condition with a touch of fading and light bumping to the top of the spine. There are two small brown marks on the front board. The contents are tight and clean with a name written on the top edge of the front free endpaper. The unclipped dustwrapper has some shelf wear with light soiling and the spine is very faded. The front of the wrapper is lightly faded. The top edge is rubbed and the spine ends are bumped and nicked with small pieces missing from the top of the spine. Seller Inventory # gIndia15
