Red cloth with gilt spine. 8vo. 377pp. First edition, first state with 32 pages of publisher's ads dated "September 1911" at end. Set in pre-Revolutionary Russia, the novel tells the story of a young student involuntarily involved in an assassination and explores themes of terrorism, surveillance, and the suffering of ordinary people caught up in political strife. A good copy with some light fading and corner wear to the covers. The spine is a bit browned and has some wear at the tips. The text is good with light soiling and wear. The front and rear flyleaves are lightly browned. There is a bookplate at front with an ink number above it. Seller Inventory # 9129
