About this Item
AGATHA CHRISTIE - THE UNDER DOG & E. PHILLIPS OPPENHEIM - BLACKMAN'S WOOD published together in TWO (2) NEW CRIME STORIES, published by UK publisher Reader's Library (#287), copyright 1929, fragile maroon boards with gold gilt lettering to spine & front panel with 1920s art deco edging, First Printing (book was later reissued in 1936 by Daily Express under the title "Two Thrillers"), this cheaply made (and fragile) hardcover was published without blank free endpapers. THIS WAS THE FIRST AGATHA CHRISTIE UK BOOK NOT PUBLISHED BY COLLINS SINCE SHE CHANGED PUBLISHER'S IN 1926. Book has no former owner or used bookstore markings/stamps inside (original bookseller's faded stamp to title page - we know this is the original bookseller's stamp as the stamp is dated 1928 but this book wasn't published until 1929), clean endpapers - no staining or tape residue (some age darkening), no foxing to endpapers or pages or outer page edges, age darkening/dust soiling to outer page edges, tight flat pages with no creased page corners, no wear to board edges or board corners, slight wear to spine tips (common defect with these very fragile boards - this book was also published with basically a "floating spine" making it even more fragile), almost no wear to left/right spine hinges, spine lettering is still present and not worn or oxidized, no dust soiling or staining to boards. Dust jacket has small chipping at top of spine/top left on front panel and largish 'v' losses to bottom spine tip corners, small closed tear with related creasing along top edge on front panel otherwise no chipping, tearing or creasing, hint of wear to front flap crease (nick losses at flap crease corners(, almost no edge wear, no spine fading/darkening, almost no color rubbing to left/right on spine, almost no dust rubbing to panels, no soiling or staining, front & rear panel artwork is quite nice. Overall a VG+/FINE- book in VG/VG+ original dust jacket of a rare 1920s era UK Agatha Christie 1st printing IN ORIGINAL DUST JACKET. I have a number of other U.K. and U.S. Agatha Christie 1st printing hardcover books up for sale. Seller Inventory # ABE-1631246560355
