About this Item
First edition. 8vo, publisher s original red cloth in the pictorial dustjacket. (8), 371 pp. A fine, bright and very handsome copy, very minimal mellowing to the spine panel. FIRST EDITION. Faulkner's second novel about the Snopes and the havoc they wreak on the town of Jefferson in the fictional county of Yoknapatawpha, Mississippi. This novel is a Faulkner classic, manifesting many of the themes of the American South which first made their appearance in Faulkner's early career, and which are partly derived from the author's experience of the Great Depression. The Town is completely self-contained, but it gains resonance from being read with the other two Snopes family stories; THE HAMLET and THE MANSION. Seller Inventory # 21765
