First edition, first prnt. Black cloth-covered boards with spine lettering. Inscribed by Uris on the front free endpage. "For Bill Melton with great appreciation Leon Uris." Shallow wrinlke on spine bottom edge cloth; otherwise, a tight copy in Fine condition in a Near Fine dustjacket with beginning toning and few small edge wrinkles. Bill Melton was a Major League player with the White Sox and others. Basis for the 1969 Alfred Hitchcock film with Claude Jade, Frederick Stafford and Dany Robin. Adapted by Uris who disagreed with Hitchcock's recommendations and abandoned the project which was completed by Samuel A. Taylor. Seller Inventory # 61610
