First UK Edition. Publisher's red boards with gilt lettering to the spine. Maroon top edge. Minor discolouration to the boards still a VG+ copy. In the VERY RARE dust wrapper priced 12s 6d net to the inside flap As called for. The D/W has minor wear/light chipping at the head and tail of the spine but is overall i VG (or better) condition. A learned discussion of the mystery of the origin of the Gypsy race and their language, their achievement of happiness without civilisation, and the wild romanticism of their complete denial of nearly all accepted ethical and social values. Published in 1929, this book is a cultural, historical record of Roma culture in various European countries, as observed by the author. Each chapter describes the unique gypsy experience in each country, including the talents, skills, customs, laws and social interchange with local populations.
