(xxx), 375p, Illustrated by 98 Photographs after engravings from the Boydell gallery, plus frontispiece (statue of Shakespeare) and round vignette on title page. All photographs are remarquably sharp, contrasty and unfaded. They could have been printed yesterday. Each photograph was meticulously mounted on a single sided page, with detailed descriptions of the scene and credits to the original artist and engraver on the opposite page. Rules around each text page and each photograph. Bound in brown half calf with leather corners, spine with 5 raised bands and gilt title on black background. Marbled endpapers and all edges marbelised. Some scuffing to the leather, and some wear to ends, but a strong and solid binding. The inside is in a very good to fine condition, pages and photographs bright and clean with absolutely no foxing. Overall a Very Good+ copy of a very scarce title, remarquable for the quantity and quality of its photographic illustrations. Seller Inventory # 000040
