Publisher's Blue cloth boards with gilt blocked titles to spine, 200 x 135 mm approx. iv + 202 pp. Frontis + 4 other full colour plates. Undated [1873] Attributed variously by other dealers and on copac. J C Hotten publisher name to tail of spine - from which we deduce it is a 1st Impression. NB. In collating the book prior to listing we observed the following. Curiously although the book appears complete the pagination is wrong. The first leaf of signature "a" the contents page follows iv but the next leaf is "B" Chapter One"Off to France" which is numbered 18 to reverse. The leaves are then numbered correctly to 202. We would be interested to learn from other dealers/ owners of the work if their copies are so numbered. Please see our images of the actual book offered for sale for further details and condition. Good (Book- moderate general shelf wear and soiling to cloth, glue residue probably from original bookseller's label to front paste down, pencil date 1864 to bottom margin of title page, dust soiling to top edge of book block. Lacks tissue guard. No previous owner name or insc. No other notable defects). In view of the above issue we have priced conservatively and offer it on the basis of with all faults.
