Original green decorative cloth hardcovers with some wear mostly confined to spine ends and mildly bumped corners with titles on slightly faded/discoloured spines. Clean interiors with illustrations including vignette on each title page, xx, 396, xii, 386 untrimmed pages plus 16 pages of publisher's advertisements at rear of volume 2. Inside each front cover is a plate for South Shields Book Society with the names of the 18 members and the dates when they received and sent away the book, with 2d fine for each day over the allotted 7 days, and 6d fine for failing to date entries. Published in 1838 both 1st edition volumes in good to very good condition. Seller Inventory # 002299
