About this Item

Description:

16 steel engravings after Bodner, Bartlett, and others. Rebacked with new spine and label. Original publisher's leather boards, blind stamped, gold stamped and quite spectacular to behold despite dulling to extremities. Binding and hinges are very sound. Some of the gilt on fore and bottom edges has worn off. Brief inscription on front free endpaper, else unmarked. Plates with slight foxing; pages somewhat toned but easily readable. The lovely, strong engravings are accompanied by essays relating the ambiance of the areas depicted. Views are of waterfalls in Georgia, to Indians and rock formations in Missouri, to the mountains of New York and New England. The engravings are witness to the profound influence that artists such as Bodmer and Bartlett had on the reading public. Seller Inventory # 030623
