Large Oblong Quarto. 4pp., 10 plates. Original gray half cloth portfolio over gray boards with red lettering and publisher's device on cover. Title page illustrated with an etching depicting Siegfried crossing the Rhine. Heinrich Reifferscheid (1872â "1945) was a German painter who's work was shown in renowned museums and galleries in Germany, the Netherlands and Hungary. In this set of etchings of the Rhine, Reifferscheid evokes the romantic and valiant spirit described in so many works of German art and literature. The set consists of ten etchings: 1. Dampferhaltestelle (Steamboat Stop) 2. Ruine Schà nburg (Ruin Schà nburg) 3. Die Feindlichen Brüder (The Hostile Brothers) 4. Weinlese (Grape Harvest) 5. Rheinbogen (Rhine Curve) 6. Die Lei bei Erpel (The Lei River at Erpel) 7. Gross St. Martin in Kà ln (St. Martin in Cologne) 8. Alte Gasse in Kà ln (Old Alley in Cologne) 9. Rheinkribbe (Rhine Jetty) 10. Talfahrt (Downswing) Text in German. Some sunning at foredge of portfolio, rubbed and light staining. College library plate on inside front cover; and inked name of previous owner.
