Duodecimo. (2) 282pp. Bound in brown leather, Birdsall binding, with gilt ruling on covers, gilt ruling, decor and lettering on spine; raised bands. Original green cloth binding bound in at rear. Gilt top edge. Gilt dentelles with binder's stamp. Green endpapers. Blank verse poem about sexual intrigue, religious obsession and violent death in contemporary Paris. Based on a true story of jewellry heir Antoine Mellerio. The poem garnered mixed reviews and was criticized for its journalistic tendencies by the critic C. H. Herford.
