First Edition in English; post 8vo (20cm); 292, (4) pp; two folding colour maps (one in front, the other in the back); photographic portrait frontispiece (of President Don Bernardo Soto) and 14 plates; from the library of The Costa Rica Railway Company Ltd, London, with the company's purple circular stamp to pastedowns, preliminary pages and verso of the frontis. (maps and plates free of stamps); slight shelfwear to the head and tail of the spine and tips of the corners rubbed; spine slightly faded. A near Fine copy. The book is divided into three sections; the first deals with commerce and way of life, the second history and political system, while the third looks at customs and traditions.
