About this Item
Color frontispiece, with sixteen pp. photographs and four maps. Excellent general history of the fur trade in the American Southwest, commencing with the La Lande expedition of 1804, and including chapters on Jedediah Smith, the Santa Fe Trail, James Ohio Pattie, and Joseph Reddeford Walker. Inscribed and dated in the year of publication by Cleland on the front flyleaf. Octavo. Original blue cloth binding, with decorative gilt and blind stamping. Unobtrusive remnants of a label, a small bookplate perhaps, to the front pastedown. The spine is sun faded. Light bump to the top corners. The dust jacket is price-clipped, with some browning and wear along the extremities; otherwise very good. Inscribed by Author. Seller Inventory # 59738
