About this Item
12mo. 57pp. [3]. Original black cloth over beige soft paper boards with black lettering on the front cover. A charming short story for young adults collected from the pages of the American Jewish youth literary magazine "The Sabbath Visitor" (1874-1885, also published by Bloch). There, it had been translated into English for the first time, from the original German of Austrian-Jewish writer Eduard Kulke (1831-1897). Text printed in a two-column format. The final three pages contain detailed publisher's advertisements listing a briefly discussing previous publications of the company. Ex-library copy of Congregation Sherith Israel in San Francisco, with white paper label at the tail of the spine, as well as ink stamps on the front cover, the front free endpaper, and p.45. Wrappers with some rubbing to corners, foxing to the covers, and some pen markings at the bottom of the front cover. Interior with some light foxing to the interior covers, endpapers and first few pages. Interior front cover with some light residue and toning, from what appeares to have originally been a book plate of some kind. Book block tight. Wrappers in good-, interior in very good- condition overall. Extremely scarce. Protected in modern mylar. *Singerman #4098. Seller Inventory # 47603
