About this Item
1974. First edition. ix, [i], 137pp. and 2 maps. Peter Tudebode was a Poitevin priest who was part of the First Crusade as part of the army of Raymond of Saint-Gilles. His account of the crusade, 'Historia de Hierosolymitano itinere', includes an eye-witness account of the Siege of Antioch. It has been overlooked by modern historians as it has been categorized as plagiarism. This volume is a critical translation, with an introduction and notes, by John Hugh Hill and Laurita L. Hill of the Department of History, University of Houston. The book is bound in the original red cloth covered boards with gold titling on the spine and front board. This copy is from a university library, but has few of the usual library indications. The case of the book is in very good condition with shelf wear on the boards and bumping to the spine ends. There is wear to the cloth on the corner tips and spine ends with a little damage to the cloth on the bottom spine corners. The contents are tight and clean and the only library indications appear to be a label overlaid with a 'withdrawn' stamp on the front fixed endpaper; a small stamp overlaid with a 'withdrawn' stamp on the reverse of the title page; and a small stamp on page 21 and the last page of the index. It is possible that a small stamp has been missed. Seller Inventory # gMedievalHist02
