Paper mache & plaster boards, heavily embossed with the symbols of the four evangelists etc.; marbled endpapers with 16 sheets (frontis + pages numbered 1-31) showing detailed illustrations & text for 12 of the New Testament parables, beginning with The Prodigal Son. There is an additional sheet (heavily foxed) listing the parables & giving a brief summary of them. Front board good, outer corners of rear board slightly chipped, spine worn with small losses, the gutta-percha holding the sheets in place has perished but all present and generally in good condition; marbled endpapers good; gilding to all page edges and to near edges of boards.
