Condition: Fair. 388 pages. Illus. (some in color), decorative boards, board and spine edges worn, small tears and chips at spine. Front flap of DJ present. Text is in Russian. This book was presented to a group of American visitors to Palekh in 1935 (Miss Herter, Miss Parrot, Miss Valey, and a gentleman whose name is indistinct). A number of artists signed an inscription at the front of the book and also at their pictures. The book is signed by what appears to be a group of 10 artists (Ivan Golikov, Ivan Vakurov, Nikolay Zinoviev, Artistarkh Dadykin, Ivan Zubkov, Ivan Markichev, Dmitriy Butorin, Aleksandr Kotukhin, Pavel Bazhenov, and Akeksandr Baranov)and the book's author on the back of the front free endpaper. Signed photosfollowing pages 17, 73, 100, 124, 158, 172, 189, 205, 218, 237, and 247. There are a number of full-page illustrations in color and some in black and white. Not all photographs of the artists are signed (perhaps half). Card from "Republican Artists" is laid in. One of only 5200 copies; this copy may be unique with this number of autographs. Palekh miniature is a Russian folk handicraft of miniature painting, which is done with tempera paints on varnished articles made of papier-mache. Seller Inventory # 55437
