This is an uncommon first edition reprint of the full run of PITFCS (Publications of the Institute for Twenty-First Century Studies), an influential hard science fiction fanzine "for pros," which ran from 1959-1971. It was supplanted by SFWA in 1965, which filled a similar niche. A magazine for and by professional science fiction writers and editors, PITFCS was a wealth of both a self-serious examination of the nuances of mid-century genre fiction and a tongue-in-cheek insider's look at the same (Cogswell's motto was "PITFCS are *never* proofread").
