A beautifully illustrated 19th century children`s book featuring numerous anthropomorphic characters, including frogs, otters, rats, and so on. Inscription on front pastedown dated 1853. Slightly stained, with some foxing and browning, especially to the lower gutter and foot of most pages. Book block cracked in one place, some tears to edges of pages. Blue cloth binding, upper board with large gilt title decoration, binding with wear, particularly to spine and edges, as well as a few scrapes and stains. First edition. A collection of poems about animals for children, with a wood-engraved frontispiece, pictorial title, and 7 hand-coloured pages of illustrations by Harrison Weir. Beautifully illustrated. 32 p.
