Black cloth, titles in pale blue on the spine: front board creased (slight manufacturing flaw), leaf edges lightly soiled. In the three color illustrated dust jacket with price 7s. 6d. intact on the front flap: head edge chipped, front flap hinge partially split. Though no copyright date is stated, the publisher's advertising lists only Scherf's three earlier mysteries and the book is "produced in complete conformity with the Authorized Economy Standards."
