First Edition. octavo, blue cloth in dust jacket. (xiv), (284)pp. Harper & Brothers, O'Brien, an American, trained for the RFC in Canada and in 1917 was at the front flying a Sopwith Pup. On 17 August 1917 during the Battle of Ypres, he was wounded, shot down, and made a prisoner of war. The majority of the book is about his three weeks in prison camp at Courtrai, his escape from a train, and his flight through Luxembourg, Belgium, and Holland to safety. Illustrated. Signed by O'Brien over the bottom of the frontispiece. Very nice, clean copy of book. Jacket has light wear, darkened spine, and a few clear tape mends to interior.
