About this Item
A Very Good or better example of a stunning piece of typesetting history. Luxurious Red Morocco presents beautifully despite some rubbing to corners, tail, and crown. Binding remains tight and square. Hinges are starting to show some wear and represent the most distinct whitening on the binding. Marbled endpapers. All edges gilt. Text is complete and clean internally with some quite minor foxing to the first few pages, otherwise bright and fresh. Hardcover. 12mo. 299pp. Didot's setting of Bond's Horace is most notable as one of the earliest examples of the inclusion of photographs. Firmin Didot is considered the most talented member of his generational firm and this example is truly stunning. A bookplate of Henri Lambert is affixed to the front paste down. Lambert was a Belgian man of letters and industry, owning the largest glass in the world of its time. He was a social and political voice, advocating (paradoxically?) for the formation of trade unions and against limiting liability for corporate entities. . Contemporary Red Morocco with Stunning Gilt Detailing and Five Raised Bands First Edition of famous typesetter Firmin Didot. Seller Inventory # 91
