An early military foray to the West Indies insitgated by Cromwell returned a dreadful mortality and this continued into the late eighteenth century. Hunter (1754-1809, is not to be confused with James Hunter surgeon) was appointed physician to the army in 1777 and was superintendent of military hospitals in Jamaica from 1781 to 1783. xv, [i-errata], 328; half-title present; original tree calf on new boards with a spine with raised bands and gilt title and new endpapers. Several neat stamps from from the Royal College of Surgeons libarry in Dublin. Some light foxing mostly in the first few pages.
