Xxxvii page introduction + 198 pages + a 51 page Treatise on the Devonshire Colic which was very epidemic in 1724, this section with a half title and separate pagination. Title page a little grubby as is reverse and dedicatory page, but not severe contents on hand made rag paper all very good, no loss, no inscriptions not an ex-library copy. Half calf not quite contemporary and early 19th century, this is worn and rubbed with stringing showing at spine.Contents Very Good, binding fair to good+. Octavo. *John Huxham was the first medical practitioner to categorise Influenza, he worked on fevers throughout his career and won the coveted Copley Medal although based at Plymouth. He was born in 1692 in Totnes and died in 1768. This book is also a useful weather pattern recording the year's weather trends for a number of years in the Plymouth area, so thermometer records and temperatures and all climatic observations are analysed, useful perhaps to climatologists? The observations were made at the request of the Royal Society for members to record all data appertaining to barometric pressure, rainfall, etc. He also diagnosed scurvy and both Cider and Lemons as preventatives.
