With a profusion of illustrations from the author's photographs and a folding map. 8vo, publisher's original blue cloth lettered on the spine in dark-blue, with blue pictorial decoration on the upper cover. xv, 292 pp, folding map. A very good copy, the text clean with some expected spotting to the edges. AN EARLY PRINTING OF THE FIRST EDITION OF THIS WORK ON THE ALPS OF AUSTRIA AND TYROL. Frank Smythe was one of the greatest mountaineers of his age, and was also a pioneer in mountain photography. He was also one of the greatest 20th century Alpine climbers and skiers and founded two new routes on the Brenva Face of Mont Blanc.
