Thick 8vo, publisher s original red cloth, gilt lettered spine and gilt and blind motifs on the upper cover. xxvi, 264 pp. A fine copy, internally, near as pristine, spine with very minor mellowing. FIRST EDITION IN THE ORIGINAL CLOTH. The author considered Nigeria to be the most interesting and greatest of the British Protectorates in Tropical Africa. The intention in writing the work was to paint a picture of Nigeria at the turn of the century; to portray the life of its people, the difficulties and tasks of its British governors, and the Imperial responsibilities the United Kingdom contracted in assuming control over the vast region.
