[vi], 433pp. Wells' masterpiece of the wartime experience in south eastern England (to quote Wikipedia). A very nice copy with no soiling. There is foxing to the closed edges of the text block, some spots encroaching a few mm onto the page edges. There is some tanning to the endpapers, a partially erased name to the front endpaper, and a neat ownership name to the front pastedown. Firm, in the original binding of dark green cloth, decorated in blind, all fresh and bright, including the gilt spine title. The tips of the upper corners are slightly knocked. In the protected light brown dust jacket, printed with the title and an orange feather to the front panel. There are indentations just above 'Britling' to the front panel, but the board beneath is not affected. The spine is a little darkened, and knocked at the head, and there are small nicks to the ends of the joints. There is a one-inch closed tear to both the top of the lower joint and the top of the rear flap fold: these were formerly repaired with Sellotape, which has darkened the reverse, inner surface of the jacket, while the outer surface is unaffected.
