Folio. 14x11". Unpaginated. [5] + 37 plates. Spiral-bound illustrated stiff wrappers, with red and white lettering on the front cover. Illustrated title page. The work is a fine produced collection of 37 mostly b/w photographic reproductions (many in photogravure) of work by a variety of acclaimed photographers of the first half of the 20th century, including Margaret Bourke-White, Alfred Eisenstaedt, Arnold Genthe, Laura Gilpin, Rockwell Kent, Victor Keppler, and George Platt Lynes. Works include landscapes, portraits, fashion and advertising photography, street scenes, and fine art photography. As stated by Heywoth Campbell, the editor, in the introduction, ".four different processes of reproduction have been employed: Gravure, Letterpress, Aquatone and Four Color Process Printing. A variety of papers and inks has been used throughout, to make a total of thirteen variables in the manufacture of this single collection." Some images printed on glossy paper. Two prints in color. Includes a table of contents for the images, and a four-page text introduction. Front and back covers have come loose from the spiral binding but are present. Light smudges and scratches to the covers, with light rubbing to corners. Chipping to the most bottom ring of the spiral binding. There is a long closed tear along the bottom of the print by Walter S. Meyers, with image unaffected. Light age toning to initial text pages. Image overall clean and bright. Wrappers though detached, the wrappers are in overall good+ condition, interior in very good- condition overall. Protected by modern mylar. * The publication was intended to be the first volume in a photography series that was ultimately never continued. Two versions of the publication exist, one of loose prints in a box and one spiral bound. Publication is not dated and reported dates vary, between 1935 and 1937. *Heyworth Campbell (1886-?) was an art director, and photo editor who was a founding member of the Art Directors Club of New York.
