First edition (dated title page, no further printings stated). Cloth and boards with dust jacket. Book in very good, clean condition, small gift inscription at upper right corner of front pastedown endpaper dated Xmas, 1935 (i.e., in year of publication), tips of boards rubbed through, lower edges of boards only slightly worn. Jacket good, price on inside flap roughly torn away by hand but paper loss still confined to corner, edges of jacket roughly worn with many small tears but not missing much; there is only one significant chip about the size of a nickel at the top edge of the front panel and a shallow piece a few inches long is missing from the top edge of the back panel, spine with 3/4" chip at top removing the first two letters of "Mister" and a small chip at the bottom of the spine which does not affect any lettering. Highly praised by Bader, American Picture Books, pp. 167-168, and included in Cattermole Books' "100 Best [Children's] Books of the 20th Century.". Seller Inventory # 3174
