Biography of the popular Italian poet and librettist Pietro Trapassi (1698-1782) by the English music historian, composer and musician Charles Burney (1726-1814). The text of the biography is interspersed with English translations of Metastasio's correspondence with friends and patrons. Volume 1 covers his childhood and early career, Volume 2 his achievements in Vienna from 1751 to 1770, and Volume 3 his later years. A good set with some scuffing and wear to the bindings. The hinges have some wear but the bindings are still firm. The text is very good with some scattered foxing and some spotting to some of the page margins. Volume 1 has its spine label and the label for Volume 3 is laid in at front. Each volume has the bookplate of Ivan Musgrave Watson. Foreign postage extra on this heavy set. Seller Inventory # 11211
