About this Item
together with Meditationes analyticae, Cambridge: J. Nicholson [and others], 1785. Both 4to, and complete with all of the plates as called for, both the third editions. An attractive set bound in full calf (1840?) with the Cambridge University Crest on the covers. Armorial bookplate of Robert Francis Ellis on the front pastedowns with his name on the front end papers. The end papers are a bit toned, but the texts are near fine. A scarce set of works by the renowned English mathematician (1713 ? 1798), in the first work the theorem which in every textbook on algebra is now referred to as 'Wilson Theorem' is outlined and the second contains a treatment of convergence and divergence and theorems in the summation of series which are remarkable for their time.
