Hardcover. Condition: Good. Cincinnati, Ohio, 1831 (preface dated 1830). Full leather, rubbed at all edges. Chip at heel, closed tear at head. Contemporary owner marks on endpapers. Text is complete and heavily foxed, but legible. 561 pages. (These would be early Christian and Portestant martyrs.) Martin Ruter was a prominent Methodist minister, missionary and educator of the early 19th century. He was a pioneering Methodist in the United states, riding large circuits in both his early and late careers, riding over 2,200 miles on horseback to promote and raise money for his educational missions, shortly before his death in 1838. But his vision was realized in 1840 with the founding of Rutersville College and the formation of the Texas Conference of the Methodist Episcopal Church. Seller Inventory # 300616
