DESCRIPTION: This illustrated volume tells the detailed story of the sisituwan, Wahpeton, Pabaksa (Cut Head) and other remnants of the Dakota tribe which eventually settled on the Spirit Lake Reservation in northeastern North Dakota. Once centered around Lake Traverse, these Dakota were avid buffalo huners. They claimed the area north to Mni Wakan, or Spirit Lake now known as Devil's Lake.With war breaking out late in 1862 an eventual treaty was established in 1851.
