He is noted as the seventh president of Yale College (1778-1795) and one of the founders of Brown University. According to religious historian Timothy L. Hall, Stiles' tenure at Yale distinguishes him as "one of the first great American college presidents." (Wikipedia). 3 vols, tall 8vo. Volume I: January 1,1769-March 13,1776, 665pp; Volume II: March,14, 1776 - December 31, 1781, 573pp; Volume III: January 1,1782 - May 6, 1795, 648pp. Illustrated with six b&w plates.
