Octavo. In two volumes; Vol. I:446pp., and Vol. II: 511pp., illustrated with 319 Illustrations and nine photogravures. One of the highlights on the Pre-Raphaelites and Victorian artist. The work contains a chronological list of Millais' work in oil, water and black-and-white (see Volume 2., 466-497). Fredeman, W. Pre-Raphaelitism. When the Pre-Raphaelite Brotherhood (PRB) was formed in 1848 it was at his house on Gower Street though he was young but whose artistic ideas already paralleled what Dante Gabriel Rossetti and others were pursuing. The paintings of the early, Pre-Raphaelite period are still regarded as Millais's chief contribution to the history of British art. This two volume set is the first one cited by DNB on a guide to his work. A very nice set bound in dark blue cloth decorated and lettered in gilt, top edges gilt, corners lightly bumped or worn through cloth, light rubbing to head of volume one. fore-edges with scattered foxing, occasional light scattered foxing to outer margins of engravings.
