Hardcover book in good condition. First edition, early issue. All first edition points and errors appear to be present, the exception being the Chapman and Hall are not named on the first plates. Half leather maroon boards, gilt edged textblock. Damage to front pastedown, crack to back hinge. Slightly bowed. Interior pages mostly clean, some light foxing. Heavier foxing shows to title and author page, as well as some of the plates. Early issue points: p.123 line 17 visiter for sister; p. 160 line 42 latter for letter; p.245 line 10 flys for flies; p.272 line 2 visiter for visitor; p. 197 line 22 incontestible for incontestable.
