Octavo, half brown leather binding,gilt decorated spine with title, tight, slightly rubbed at edges and boards, marbled cuts and endpapers,bookplate Dr Sikorav on front end paper; First edition in book form, bound from a mix of early and later parts, partly with the publisher's parts which have stab holes from the original wrappers; illustrated with 39 etchings by Hablot Knight Browne and the steel-engraved frontispiece portrait after the painting by David Maclise, it has "visiter" corrected to "sister" on page 123 (a later state) and "latter" on page 160 (an earlier state). First state of the engraved frontispiece portrait of Dickens (with Chapman & Hall imprint at bottom) and first states of plates one, two, and three (with Chapman & Hall imprint at bottom). Further on page XV the frontis. is not listed in the "List of Plates"; page 245, line 10 "flys" for "flies", page 618, line 23-24 "Grogswig" for "Grogzwig". The three first plates are browned, the others are only browned at the margin; the text itself is in very good condition; Seller Inventory # 4877
