Harriett Hesketh or Harriett Cowper (1733-1807) was an English letter writer and cousin of William Cowper (1731-1800), the famous English poet and hymnodist. She is probably best kown for her correspondence with William Cowper. She also corresponded with John Johnson (1769-1833), a Church of England clergyman, poet, and editor, a cousin and friend of William Cowper, who lived with Johnson in his declining years. This volume contains a selection of her letters to John Johnson, concerning William Cowper, from 1790 up to 1806. The book is bound in the original blue cloth covered bevelled boards with gold titling on the front board. The case of the book is in very good condition with some shelf wear on the boards and bumping to the spine ends. There is some rubbing to the cloth down the spine edges and the spine is slightly darkened. The contents are tight and clean with scattered foxing. The foxing is mostl light although the first and last few pages, including the title page, are more heavily afftected. The free endpapers are browned. There is no inscription.
