Six vintage film still photographs from the 1971 film. Paper snipe affixed to the verso of three images. Based on the 1959 novel by J.B. Pick, about the people of a small village, previously safe from the fighting during the Thirty Years' War, trying to peacefully co-exist with a band of occupying mercenaries. Often cited by Michael Caine as a favorite among his many roles. 8 x 10 inches. Near Fine, manuscript graphite and ink annotations to the verso. Black manuscript notation to the recto of one image. Cloth. Condition: Good. Dust Jacket Condition: Good. First Edition. A novel of the Thirty Years War and the basis of the 1971 film starring Michael Caine and Omar Sharrif. Slight spine lean, minor wear at the corners, University of Washington hospital stamp on the front paste down, two blue ink dots on the f.e.p. "First American Edition" on copyright page. the basis of the film of the same name starring Omar Sharif and Michael Caine, scripted by James Clavell. Quite uncommon. Foxing to the top edge; dulling to the gilt spine lettering; no inscriptions; overall VG indeed. The dustwrapper is in VG+ condition with a slither of loss at the spine tips and a slightly toned spine. John Barclay Pick was know as a poet and scholar of David Lindsay and Neil Gunn.
