8vo. (23 cm.) 192p. Foreword by Sir Malcolm Sargent. Frontispiece black and white photo of Henry J. Wood plus 6 other black and white captioned photos and one facsimile of a letter from George Bernard Shaw. Front panel of dust jacket has a black and white photo of Sir. Henry Wood conducting. Blue cloth with gilt letters on the spine. Near fine with clean covers, bright gilt, bleed through on title page from sticker on copyright page which announces that the books was printed in Britain, all photos and facsimile in fine condition, else near fine to fine with no internal markings. Dust jacket lightly soiled and lightly shelfworn. Henry Joseph Wood [1869-1944] was an English orchestral conductor and composer who won international reputation as conductor of Queen's Hall (London) Symphony and promenade concerts. He also conducted symphonies by living British conductors in the Hollywood Bowl (1925, 1926). This biography by the person who represented Sir Henry Wood in almost all his business negotiations toward the end of his ife is mainly a record of Sir Henry's last six years of life (1938-1944).
