About this Item
First edition. 16 pp. with seven lithographs printed on rectos only, plus the cover design. Cream wove paper bound in publisher's brown stapled wrappers, which are printed on both sides. Very Good, wraps a bit faded with age, front wrap has a few small stains and faint strip of red offsetting (presumably from now-absent white label), bottom staple nearly loose, label present on rear wrap, corners slightly chipped. A rare Dada pamphlet, an artist's book not too dissimilar from a late 20th century 'zine. Schwitters printed it as a special issue of his avant garde periodical Merz, utilizing a wide variety of techniques and in a variety of styles. His biographer Schmalenbach writes, "The Kathedrale graphics are doubtless the finest, most original works produced by Schwitters at this time, and they deserve a place of honour in the history of modern graphics.".
