About this Item
Octavo. 242pp., illustrated. The year is 1839, two men, John Lloyd Stephens and Frederick Catherwood journeyed by steamboat and mule through the green hell of Central America, where almost by chance they stumbled upon a civilization so utterly forgotten by Indians and white men alike that it had no name. The author spent three years researching the Maya world and making extensive excursions in Honduras, Guatemala, and Yucatan while tracking the route of Stephens and Catherwood by biplane, mule, jet, jeep and foot. A story of historical significance.
