About this Item
Paperback. 'Jean Dorsenne' pseud. of Etienne Trouffeau (1892-1945). Written in French. Richard Whittington-Egan described the Dorsenne book as being "nearer to the time of the Ripper than to us at the end of the (20th)century, and it seems to resonate with a chilling kind of close-focus remembrance." He goes on to add that Dorsenne has "constructed what can only be categorized as a fanciful thriller out of the horrendous, real-life 'Jack L'Eventreur' saga." The authors of the excellent 'The Jack the Ripper A-Z' (Begg/Fido/Skinner) say about this original :"Floridly recounts every known (and some otherwise unknown) legendary incident and suspect, often in ways which reveal authorial imagination and French ignorance of English police methods. Purports to be based on recollections of 'Chief Constable G.W.H.', the last surviving officer engaged on the case, visited in his retirement in a Yorkshire village by Dorsenne. G.W.H., allegedly resident in Windsor at the time of the crimes, has not been identified." With Table of Contents. 219pp. p/back (paper wraps). Browned pp., approx. 1" (3cm) of lower part of fr. cover and back cover partially detached, light shelfwear o/w a Vg+ copy of an extremely rare 'Ripper' collectable. Seller Inventory # 18354
