RARE gilded & embossed illustrated hardcover book, sorry no dust-jacket. "The House with the Mezzanine and Other Stories" By Anton Tchekoff. Translated from the Russian by S. S. Koteliansky and Gilbert Cannan. 12mo, 19.5 cm x 14 cm x 3 cm, Brown cloth-covered boards, Gilt embossed lettering on spine & front cover, Pages rough cut on vertical edge. 251 pages. Weight: 519 Grams. CONTENTS ARE LIKE NEW!!! Spine is rubbed but clean and sturdy, slightly damaged (frayed cloth) & bumped either end, gilt lettering slightly dull, binding tight! Cover is mostly clean, faint white lines (couple on front, more on back), slightly discoloured in places, edges worn, scuffed & bumped. Corners are bumped & frayed, boards exposed on top ones. Crack forming between second fly leaf & first title page. Crack between p. 136 & p. 137. Some pages (very few) have remnants of paper missed by cutter on bottom edge and/or corners. Last few pages have corners folds and/or indent from folds. Very light age tanning throughout, more pronounced on end papers. RARE ITEM, EXCELLENT CLEAN, CRISP CONDITION INSIDE!!!
