First American edition, first state with a bowing hobbit on the title page, and Chapter VII mistakenly titles Chapter VI. Bound in publisher's original buff cloth stamped in blue and red; lacking the dust jacket. Very Good, light lean to binding, cloth lightly worn at extremities and lightly soiled. Foxing and tanning to pages, former owner gift inscription and partial card-pocket to preliminary pages, several pages tape-reinforced at gutter and a few creases.
