About this Item
Oblong Octavo. 22 leaves with tissue guards. Original dark green, string-bound imitation leather. 53 film stills (app. 7 x 5" / 6 x4") from the 1957 film production of "El Hakim," directed by Rolf Thiele and featuring O. W. Fischer (Ibrahim), Michael Ande (Ibrahim as child), and Nadja Tiller (Aziza). The film is based on the novel by John Knittel and the screenplay was written by Herbert Reinecker. It is the story of an Egyptian boy from a small village growing up in humble conditions during British colonial reign. He wants to become a doctor and therefore leaves his home for Cairo. Ibrahim overcomes all obstacles and becomes a celebrated physician. Dispite of his successful career he constantly fights poverty and corruption. Eventually his career leads him to London and Paris. He meet some attractive women along the way but happiness fails him. A fatal illness finally forces him to return to his homeland. The film stills in this album are arranged according to the story line of the movie and credited Roxy/NF/Filipp. Most of them have about nine lines of typed descriptions of the scene shown on the photograph typed onto paper sheets glued to the verso of the photographs. The photographs are mounted into the album with photo corners. All but four (6 x 4") of these magnificent photographs are 7 x 5" in size, protected by tissue guards and mounted to heavy stock leaves and distributed over 13 leaves, front and verso. Nine leaves are left without photographs. Some creasing of tissue guards and pencil notes on verso of last, blank page. Light age-toning. Binding and interior in overall very good condition.
